Are there National Park Service campgrounds on the Outer Banks?
Yes. The National Park Service operates three campgrounds on Hatteras Island: Oregon Inlet Campground in Nags Head, Cape Point Campground in Buxton, and Frisco Campground near Frisco. There is also an NPS campground on Ocracoke Island. These are typically more affordable than private resorts and offer direct access to Cape Hatteras National Seashore beaches.
Is there an oceanfront RV resort on the Outer Banks?
Yes. Cape Hatteras / Outer Banks KOA Resort in Rodanthe offers oceanfront RV camping. Camp Hatteras RV Resort & Campground in Waves is another full-service resort option near the ocean. Both offer amenities including pools, water access, and hookups.
Can you camp on Ocracoke Island?
Yes. The National Park Service operates Ocracoke Campground at 4352 Irvin Garrish Highway on Ocracoke Island, offering tent and RV sites within Cape Hatteras National Seashore. The campground is close to the beach and Ocracoke Village, and is one of the most unique camping spots on the East Coast.
